ThE AFteR/v\atH: Two Emperors for the Price of One
- Go-Daigo fled to Mt. Yoshino in the south and set
up a "southern" imperial court and declared
himself the one true Emperor. Now Japan had 2
dynasties.
- Ashikaga Takauji had to deal with this rival
court PLUS political infighting. He ended up
ordering the death of his own brother.
- This period of time is called the Nanbokucho, or
North and South dynasties. The schizm would
last until 1392.
